About RSS Feeds
What are RSS news feeds?
RSS stands for 'Really Simple Syndication' or 'Rich Site Summary'. It is a format that allows websites, such as ours at Erith Secondary School, to keep you informed of regular changes to web-content.
Why have RSS news feeds?
RSS news feeds enable you to keep up-to-date with issues that interest you by collecting the latest headlines, articles, photographs and video material from different websites. This saves you time as you do not have to visit individual sites or sign-up to site newsletters.
What do I need to do to get news feeds?
You require special software (called a 'RSS reader', 'feed reader' or 'aggregator') to enable you to obtain the news feeds from sites including ours. The software checks the feeds and displays any new articles that have been added. The software can be web-based, desktop-based or mobile-device-based.
There are many different types of RSS readers available for different platforms. You need to choose a reader that will work with your computer.

How do I subscribe to an RSS News Feed?
Once you have your feed reader, you need to check whether the sites that interest you are able to deliver updates. You can then add their RSS feed to the list of feeds your feed reader checks. To show you that a feed is available some sites, including ours, display a small icon with the acronyms 'RSS', 'XML' or 'RDF'.
